“I
can think of no better way to raise awareness of the dangers associated
with prom season. Safe and Sober Prom Night creates an environment
where students actually pressure each other to say ‘no’
instead of ‘yes’ to alcohol and drugs.”
Kurt Larson
Safe and Sober Prom Night encourages students to take a pledge -
a written commitment to their parents - to stay drug and alcohol
free on prom night. In exchange, these students are given incentives
to take and keep their commitment, including a chance to win cash
for their school and items such as t-shirts, wristbands, and car
window stickers, all at no expense to the schools.
In 2005, the Safe and Sober Prom Night program was established by
Kurt Larson of Larson Law Firm. For its inaugural year, Safe and
Sober Prom Night was implemented at the five high schools in the
Springfield Public Schools system. In just its first year the program
received the support and sponsorship of more than 30 local organizations
and businesses, and more than 750 students took the pledge. Since
then, the program has steadily expanded into regional schools in
southwest Missouri.
As
Safe and Sober Prom Night spreads to schools throughout Missouri,
we want to encourage your school to contact us regarding implementing
the program in your community. To get your school involved or for
more information about the Safe and Sober program, please email
us at sspn@larsonlaw.com.
We would love to help your school make the safe choice on prom night!
